Subject: Razr Snap in Adapter Installed and Test Drive - Long Winded

Removed, modified and reinstalled my center console holder last night to accept the Razr adapter. Backed the car out of the garage to a point where the phone went to No Service. Placed phone into adapter and in about 20 secs service was restored to a strength of 2 bars. So the external antenna does work. Took phone out of adapter, and phone went back to No Service again. Did this a couple of more times in the name of science and amusement, and noticed that as long as the Razr was within an inch or so of the bottom of the adapter that service was restored. Considering that the USB port is power and data only, stands to reason. Perhaps Martin could comment on how a proximity antenna functions, if this is in fact what is occurring. To verify/compare Razr function, removed Razr adapter (can be done but requires a little finesse to get back out and in) and put in V600 adapter. Changed SIM over to V600 and repeated 'test'. V600 displayed No Service until snapped into adapter at which point it showed 2/3 bars of signal strength, basically swapping back and forth. Changed adapters and phones around again, snapped the Razr in place and went for a drive. Took a route that I know I get no reception/service when using the V600 or Razr stand alone. Service was maintained at 2/3 and sometimes 1 bar signal strength. In one area service was lost briefly, but I also lose service with the V600 as well there, so no big revalation.
So the Razr adapter performs the same as the V600 adapter, it charges the phone and allows you use your external antenna. I do not think that the antenna connection of the Razr adapter performs as well as the V600. With the V600 I have always known it to be good for a signal strength of 2 bars. The Razr appears to good for a solid 1 bar and fluxuating up to 2 on occasion. But it definitly does improve your service reception if you are on the service area fringe as I am.
I also want to compare the adpater I used with one of the other adapters I have for phone 'docking' ease. With this one the Razr needs to be lifted about 1 -2 mm for the USB port to engage. It is not a drop in and slide operation. Could be manufacuring tolerances or me being anal. Will have a look at 'tweaking' the docking part this evening.
Will post a shot of the finished install shortly.
