Subject: If the trunk gasket looks good, the leak is probably somewhere else

Check the tail light gaskets these leak in many bmws from that era.

Check the back glass gasket for signs of rust around the edges. I expect if there is a leak in the trunk from this area the rust would be visible to a casual observer and you would already know about it.

Check the antenna for the drain tube at the bottom of it, exiting the car.

Look for holes in the trunk from underneath, doubtful, but grasping a straws.

Then change your tail light gaskets and let us know. Be sure to check the license plate lamp area for rust while in the area.

As the tail light gaskets age and dry out, they allow water to get in as it comes off the trunk opening.
