My recently delivered E90 330iA was equipped with Run-Flats from the start - no choice. I thought that as drivers we should have been give n the choice, but the BMW marketers thought otherwise.

In fact the ride is excellent, and the suspension has been adjusted so that the steering precision and road "feel" is much better and more accurate, than I had hoped for.

I have previously owned a 1994 E36 325iA saloon; followed by an E36/7 Z3 manual; then an E38 740iL auto - great torque, but soooo much understeer. This was followed by an 1994 E36 325iA cabriolet - perfect size, and a great ride. When this car was bequeathed to my son, I replaced it with the current E90 330iA.

My initial reaction was that the car was too "clinical" so very competent in every situation. Having driven it for four months I am now starting to take it to the limits, and to enjoy driving it "in anger" as it were. The engineers have done a brilliant job, and I cannot fault the handling. I had the flat tire warning light come on and just by re-inflating the tyres, and re-calibrating, I got rid of the problem. I love the extra boot space.....and I ordered the split back-rest option with through loading, to make the most of the space.

The extra dollars for the Logic 7 is more than worthwhile - the subwoofers under the front seats give a fantastic sound and there is absolutely no need for tweaking the system any further. My dream is for my iPod to be controllable from the steering wheel and for the track titles to be displayed on the Logic 7 screen. It will come in time.......

Go for the run-flats. Anytime. But I guess it's a personal thing.

No wonder BMW sales and profits are up these last few quarters, (according to Fortune Mag. Feb 2006)
