Subject: Howdy from Maine, folks!

Just want to say hi and tell you a little about myself and my ///M car.

"Hi."

Now that that's over with, let's move on to the car.

I recently bought an 88 M5 that I believe to be the best thing I ever did. I had only driven my two 528e's so the performance difference I experience is something in the order of galactic! I love this car to death! I know most of us here do, but this is something of a culmination for me.
I originally owned an '82 528e 3-spd that had been beaten off guardrails, deer and garage walls before I got it in '99. I finally crashed it in '01 while trying to turn left across two lanes while someone waved me on. (never do that again) After that incident, I had to wait more than a year before I sat in my own BMW again. This time, I lucked out with a '87 528e that one of my local dealers owned and lovingly maintained and upgraded. This car is in great shape except for a little rust (Maine law: car must consist of no less than 2% Iron-Oxide) and a lack of proper oil-change interval. Still, even with the great condition of the '87 5er, I still wanted more. Dodge Intrepids were making me look bad.
Which brings me to the M5. I know of a twisty cul-de-sac neighborhood that is hard to get out of once you're in. At the very end of this neighborhood, I found an M5 sitting under a tarp in a driveway. You know the M5 from another E28 even under a tarp, from it's wide tires and dual exhaust. After a year or so of making special trips to see this beast, I made a discovery: The plates were missing! That was all I needed to prompt a meeting. I left a note on the house stating that I had admired the car for the past year but I wasn't a wierdo. If they were selling, to contact me and I would save the time and trouble of placing ads. Within two hours, I had a call from the owner's wife who told me her husband was a merchant marine, and he couldn't bear to leave the car parked for the months that he was at sea. We haggled a bit and I ended up with the cleanest 188k car you will ever find! I wasn't as conerned about the body as the engine - afterall, it's the main ///M feature! When I finally took the valve cover off I nearly soiled myself with joy!

Clean Cam-Box

Anyway, Hi again! I hope this forum starts filling up with stuff, as I'll be posting all my stuff here instead of the other place.

-Graham
