Subject: Re: I doubt that. I've not heard of a transmission dying at

I'll have to interject with a personal story. My wife's 01 325i had no issues with the transmission and only has 63k miles on it. One day I experienced a slight slip while on a hill. I wasn;t sure and the car was due for an oil change anyhow. Took it into the dealer for the change, came back and said the tranny had some fault codes and looked to have some fluid leaking ( nowhere I could see it, on the underside of the car ). THey call me and say they have a call into bmwusa to see if they should drop the tranny. They get the okay and it is conditional that if there are no issues, then i pay for a transmission service ( fluid , filter, and 1.5 hrs labor ). They call and say the transmission is toast, that the housing weas cracked and metal everywhere inside. Luckily the car was still under the CPO and it cos tme 50$ to fix this. My advice is to call the number above and see what he says. I would probably take it to a trusted indy mechanic and have them look at it. Best case you just need a service, worst it could be a rebuild. I have to agree with Davidc in that prior to this I never had any issues with my 95 525i or my 95 325i, but this 01 has been a real pain in the rear for me..I am really happy it was CPO. -RH
