Yes, it will remove the cosmoline. It is also used in packing firearms in bulk for shipping / transport. In the past, a rifle was coated in cosmoline for shipping. It was taken apart and all metal surfaces would have to be cleaned by hand to remove the cosmoline ( time consuming and tedious). THe "quick" method was to dip the parts in kerosene and voila.....spotless rifle. It was then dried, cleaned and oiled. Now....kerosene is highly flammmable and not a very healthy substance to work with. If you have individual parts to clean, then I say dip them in a samll vat of kerosene. I can't condone using it as a surface cleaner unless you are 100% sure you are in a heat and spark / electrical free environment. Just my 2 cents. -RH
